Dr. Scott Nagy of Elyria, is excited about fighting back against tooth decay and childhood obesity this Halloween! This year he is buying back your kids' Halloween candy and sparing their teeth the offense from all of that sugar. Yes, that's right! He will pay your children to give up their take from the traditional night of collecting loads of sugar filled treats and sending it to our troops in the Middle East as a special gift from home.
Ditch the candy", that's what we're saying. " Visiting your dentist twice a year and brushing daily are great preventive measures, but doing away with excess sweets altogether would really give your teeth a healthy boost," says Dr. Nagy. "Kids can still have all of the fun of trick-or-treating, and now their piggy banks will benefit as well. Plus they will get a new Oral-B toothbrush and have the opportunity to create a custom made greeting card to send along with the candy to our courageous troops."
Global sugar consumption for kids increases by about 2% annually and currently sits at 50 million tons per year, which means parents need to be sure their kids' teeth are being cared for more than ever. Candy, in addition to damaging kids' teeth, can lead to hyperactivity, weight gain and can contribute to or complicate diabetes. In some cases, the wrong types of candy can also lead to broken teeth and damaged braces.
Kids can still dress up, go out, have fun and yes, even eat some candy. But after picking out the best of their stash, they will probably have about five pounds left, and nobody needs that much candy!
